In 2009, the 6-year education program of the Department of Architecture and Majors in Architecture won Japan’s first certification for international standards equivalence from UNESCO and the International Union of Architects. This course is composed of studies in the field of architectural arts (environmental engineering, architectural structures, and building construction).
Architectural history considers the relationship between forms of architectural expression, society and technology throughout the ages, as well as the restoration and preservation of historical structures. Architectural planning teaches through practical design exercises intended to foster the development of architects and building planners capable of playing an active role both domestically and internationally. Urban planning studies are based on exercises in the field which range from urban design to citizen participation in town development. In environmental engineering, attention is given to environment and energy issues through studies of building equipment, construction environment, annual environment, and disaster prevention engineering. Studies of building structures focus on structural analysis, structural design, and equipment development of relevance to theory and technology to achieve safer buildings. The study of building construction includes topics of practical relevance to development and management of construction methods and construction technology.
